It was 1983 when David Bowie travelled to the tiny NSW outback town of Carinda to film his now iconic video for “Let’s Dance” in the Carinda Hotel.  The town celebrates this link to rock ‘n’ roll history by throwing an annual festival, ‘Let’s Dance Carinda’ over the October long weekend. There will be plenty of other entertainment over the weekend including local music acts, arts activities, camping, workshops, food & bar, kids entertainment and much more!

Friday 28th September

At the sports oval

  • The Thin White Ukes

    The Thin White Ukes will start the entertainment at 7pm. We are very excited to have them join our festival this year.

  • DJ, Ray Jenkins

    DJ, Ray Jenkins will start the karaoke competition.

Saturday 29th September

  • Welcome to Country

    Commencing on Saturday, 29th September at 11.30 a ceremony of ‘Welcome to Country’, smoking ceremony and dance will be performed by Thikkabilla Vibrations from Dubbo. During the afternoon the popular couple JustUs will entertain periodically throughout the afternoon, and Ray Jenkins will continue the karaoke competitions, performing between bands. So have your voices tuned and ready to compete.

  • Live Bands

    The Thin White Ukes will also play Saturday commencing 5.30pm. Jeff Duff with Bowie UnZipped will then perform 7.15pm and will be followed by Mark Kotynia and his Rock band: Ballz ‘n’ All, until late/midnight.

  • Drumming and belly dance workshops

    Drumming and belly dance workshops with Rita of Bellylicious belly dancing from Tamworth, will run during the weekend.

  • The Thin White Ukes Workshop

    The Thin White Ukes will also conduct workshops on Saturday at 11am and again at 1pm. Bring your own ukulele and join in all the fun.

  • Festival Exhibitors

    Saturday will be filled with various exhibitors and include the popular Red Shoe Tent. Bring that old pair of shoes to paint red and hang on our Tribute Fence.

    Hand Picked Imports from Dubbo will be here along with Duncan & Penny’s Arty T’s also Horse and Buggy rides, Lizzy and me, White elephant stall, Face painting,

    A Jumping Castle and Bucking Bull. Raja, the clown from Walgett, will add a wonderful touch for the children handing out lollies throughout Saturday.

    There will be Fairy Floss, Donuts, Popcorn and the ice cream van with snow cones, hot dogs, coffee, lollies and chips etc., all on offer. Rainy King From Coonamble is our offical photographer and will have a booth with printer, ready with your happy snaps for making memories.

Sunday 30th September

  • A street parade with The Thin White Ukes

    A street parade with The Thin White Ukes and participants from their ukulele workshop partaking, along with the horse and buggy and everyone else who are interested in coming along dressing up Bowie style.

  • Jeff Duff and Bowie Unzipped

    Jeff Duff and band will re-enact Let’s Dance at the Carinda hotel at 2pm. The Thin White Ukes and the workshop participants will also perform at the hotel in a grand finale.

Festival Information

  • Dress up Bowie Style

    The Committee would like to encourage all to be a little outrageous and dress up Bowie style or colourfully over the long weekend to keep with the festive feel. Also pop on a wig or/and get your face painted to join in. There will be a prize for the best dressed ‘Inspired by David Bowie’ outfit judged on Saturday. So, that means, just dress up a little flamboyantly. A Unique event throughout the long week end will include Robert Gammage, the festivals artist, returning to paint three master pieces which will be auctioned to the highest bidder after he finishes each piece.

  • Dog Trial Event

    A 2-day Dog Trial event has also been planned to coincide with our festival at the sports ground starting 9am on Saturday. For information and entries phone Trevor Harland on 6828 4226.

  • Festival Emenities

    Free, hot showers, toilets and ample camping are all accessible at the sports ground where the festival takes place. Breakfast will be available at the sports ground on Sunday morning and at the hotel on Friday and Saturday morning. A continuous barbeque will be available during the weekend and meals on Saturday night at the venue. Meals will be also be available at the hotel.

  • The Little Details

    Fuel is available in Carinda. No BYO alcohol to the concert as a bar is available Friday night and Saturday. Hotel is open as normal all weekend, they also sell fresh fruit and vegetables. There is a service station in Carinda, Eftpos is available, but limited cash. There is no ATM in Carinda. At 7pm on Saturday night, the Vanguard Camper Trailer, our major fundraising raffle, will be drawn by Jeff Duff. Anyone wanting to purchase tickets can buy at the festival or online at trybooking.com You don’t have to be there to win. A framed gig Poster of David Bowie donated by Jim and Debbie Edwards from Dubbo, will be raffled after the re-enactment by Jeff Duff and Bowie UnZipped on Sunday 30th. Tickets $2.00 or 3 for $5.00.

  • Let’s Dance Festival Memorabilia

    Memorabilia of Let’s Dance Carinda: T-Shirts, Stubbie Holders, Caps and pens are available to purchase at the venue.

  • Glamping

  • Festival Admission

    Adult admission covering the whole weekend is $60.00. Children 13 to 17 years half price. Family passes available being $150.00 for two adults and 2 or more children 13 to 17 years. Friday only: – Adult: $25.00. Saturday only: – Adult: $35.00. Children 13 to 17 years: – half price. All children 12 years and under; free admission. Booking is available online at trybooking.com.
